Fervent in the Spirit!
“…WE ARE in a battle. A battle with a long history that reaches back before the annals of time began. But it is one in which the victor has already been determined. A battle? Yes. But a losing battle? Not Even Possible!” By Priscilla Shirer – Fervent – Chapter 1
In Romans 12:9-13, it says, “Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil. Cling to what is good. Be kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love, in honor giving preference to one another; not lagging in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord; rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation, continuing steadfastly in prayer; distributing to the needs of the saints, given to hospitality.”
This phrase “fervent in spirit” means boiling, glowing hot, zealous, passionate… Where is your passion? Can people around you feel the glow of the Spirit? Or have you let the distractions of life throw a “wet blanket” on the fire? What happens when a drop of water hits a hot skillet? It disappears! The heat of the skillet is too much for the water – the skillet itself is not affected by the water. Just as light makes the darkness disappear, each Christian, when fervent in spirit, can make darkness disappear. A word of caution – we must be fervent enough to always remain unchanged by the world.
My fellow Christians, we are in a battle! One that is not fought on a natural level, but a spiritual level. In Ephesians 6, Paul calls it a battle…” against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.” I think it is time for some fervency!
God wants us to be passionate, boiling and to go forth with power. We are in a war – and just because we know who the victors are doesn’t mean there will not be a fight. Of course, there will be a fight – Satan is stupid and will not give up – cause as far as he is concerned there is a glimmer of hope for his side…. even though we know there isn’t. God wants us to be fervent, because His work in us is mighty, powerful, passionate, and fervent.
I like the way; Priscilla Shirer says it –“So (everyday) we strap on weapons that work – weapons divinely authorized for our success in spiritual warfare: the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the shoes of peace. Then we take up the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation, as well as the sword – the very Word of God. But we don’t stop there – we pray in the Spirit at all times… Staying alert and persistent…” (Fervent)
Dear friend, it’s time to become so fervent that we become “red hot” in the Spirit!
