Not Enough Time in A Day
"See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil." Ephesians 5:15-16
How many time have you heard someone say - there simply isn't enough time in a day to get everything done? How many times have YOU said it? No matter who you are or where you come from or what you do for a living, we all have been given the same amount of time in a day. There are twenty-four hours, 1,440 minutes, and 86,400 seconds in a day to be precise. We all experience the constraints of time - it is the most important commodity we possess.
I used to whine to my Mother about needing more than 24 hours in a day. One time she turned to me and asked, "What would you do with more time?" Okay so now I ask, what would we do with more time in a day? Work? Clean the house? Run errands? Tend the gardens? Hmmm...So what would Jesus do with His time? Yes I went there - what would Jesus do?
Let's see, Jesus walked from place to place preaching the Kingdom of God. He healed the sick, raised the dead, had dinner with sinners, spent time talking to the Pharisees (the religious society of the day), and even on occasion took naps! One day Jesus stopped in Samaria for a moment, while the disciples went to get him something to eat. There he had the encounter with the Samaritan woman - Jesus spent that time ministering to a Gentile woman! This chance meeting brought revival to Samaria!
As the disciples returned with food for the Master and offered Him something to eat, Jesus informed them he was no longer hungry. The disciples wanted to know WHO brought the Master food! Then in one brief moment, Jesus gave the key to his time on earth..."Jesus said to them," My food is to do the will of Him who sent me and to finish His work." John 4:34
In Gretchen Saffles book "Word Before World", she says it like this - "The truth is, the way we spend our time reveals what we treasure most. Jesus' number one priority was to accomplish the work his Father sent him to do,... God created us to live within the boundaries of time, and he gives us the exact amount of time we need to accomplish what he has called us to do."
We are "epistles...known and read by all men" 2 Corinthians 3:2, which means we preach a sermon through the way we live. What sermon are you preaching? Does your life say God is a last priority or at the bottom of your to-do list? I know, I ask a lot of questions. These are many of the questions I ask myself on a regular basis.
Jesus knows there are things that need done in the day, but what about asking him what our priorities should be for the day. Maybe we could be more fulfilled in our days, rather than exhausted.
Bottomline - Jesus is our priority! Everything we say and do is a direct reflection of Jesus Christ. Consider this verse, "But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you." Matthew 6:33 Think about that - seek God first and he will take care of the rest!
So dear friend - I think it is time to review our daily and weekly routines. Is it clear that God is first in how you spend your time?
